Interesting. . .MS is sending all their cronies to Linux
install fests. Anyone want to go and start a flame war :)?

Hello Mr Thompson.
I am the current janitor of SACM and I just received your message. I'm
CC'ing the wider membership list (about 40 people) to get their thoughts.
You are certainly welcome to join us as you fall within our charter at:
http://www.cs.uml.edu/acm/processor.php?content=about&title=About%20Us
(btw, guys we have a charter, let me & Yan know if it sucks)
Brad Kuhn is coming up from Cambridge to give us a 2 hour talk on the "GNU
Generation" on Wednesday 11/19 @ 3:00pm. With his permission, we might be
able to change the format to include your remarks.
Saturday 11/22, we are having an installfest. The goal is to help people
get software on their computers. Right now most of the people
participating are interested in Linux, but there was at least one person
who expressed an interested in Microsoft software.
A week from today @ 5:00pm we are having a debate on the subject: "Perl
rocks! Python does not!" (Right Gus & Damon?). You are welcome to join us
for that, but opportunities for other activities will be limited as this is
also our final business meeting before the installfest.
If these dates don't fit within your schedule, let me know what works and
we'll see what we can do for the spring. Generally we meet the second
Tuesday of the month, but for a sufficiently interesting speaker we can
insert ourselves into Prof Livingston's colloquium schedule on wednesday's
at 3:00pm
btw, I've put both you and Brad on the sacm listserv with the "nomail"
option. This will allow you to post, but will keep our chatter from
filling your mailbox. Feel free to reply to the list or to send other
relevant info. Let me know if you want to be removed or for some reason
want to get our chatter.
Also, thanks for the .NET kit. Since the academic license lets CS folks
get pretty much the same stuff, there isn't too much interest so far. The
books look useful though. There's been some discussion of raffling off
the kit, but we weren't sure if the license permitted that.
Does the Microsoft/student ACM giveaway license permit us to raffle the
kit?
